The Halifax Professional Firefighters have managed their member’s employee benefits since 1997 when they opted out of the municipalities’ benefits plans. In 2006 the HPFF created a board of trustees to take a more proactive approach to managing their benefits. The board consists of five trustees and a trustee in training to provide for succession planning. All trustees are required to successfully complete the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans (IFEBP) ATMS level training. The board takes its role of providing benefits to its members very seriously and attempts to be innovative and on the leading edge of benefits plan design in Canada.
